General information about tracheostomy:

A tracheostomy tube is a special tube that is placed after making an opening in the trachea (tracheostomy), aiming to ventilate the patient by bypassing the upper respiratory tract. Tracheostomy can be performed urgently in any setting, such as in the case of acute airway obstruction, or it can be scheduled in the operating room. Tracheostomy can be temporary or permanent, such as in laryngectomy. As long as the opening remains open, breathing is mainly conducted through it.

Indications for tracheostomy:
