The "Manyosyu" series - Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves - is the oldest anthology of Japanese poetry (c.759) and is highly esteemed. Over a period of four centuries, 4,516 poems have been written by individuals of all classes, from emperors to merchants and farmers. The term "Manyo" is an abbreviation of "Manyosyu" and signifies people of all ranks.
The anthology "Manyosyu" is often considered in Japan as a true expression of the Japanese spirit. The themes of the poems are related to love, elegies, celebrations, family affairs, travel, the progression of the four seasons, nature, and more. Flowers hold special significance in Japanese culture and about 1,500 of the poems in "Manyosyu" cover 160 species of plants and 50 different flowers.
Sailor has therefore chosen colors based on flowers mentioned in the "Manyosyu" for the new series of inks "Manyo".
