Description

Description

Racing Green tells the story of how advances in the science of motorsport are changing the world, helping it become smarter and more environmentally friendly. Motorsport is already one of the most scientifically demanding sports: it involves a combination of sharp physical and mental ability, exceptional engineering knowledge, and ongoing technological innovation. These innovations, initially developed for racing, have been incorporated into everyday car designs to improve their safety—from ABS brakes to helmets—and their environmental impact, through electric engines and more efficient fuels and tires.

The author Kit Chapman is an avid motorsport enthusiast and has previously worked with the Virgin Racing team in Formula E on the chemistry and material science of their cars. With the help of his wide range of contacts in the industry, Kit traverses the world from Ohio to Monaco, Spain to Bahrain. He explores the behind-the-scenes of current engineering developments, highlighting incredible stories such as that of inventor Warren Mosler, who designed a car so fast it was banned from racing.

Part travelogue, part historical retrospective, Racing Green combines visits to experts with vivid narratives of real-life incidents that have become milestones in modern car development. Kit examines the breadth of racing, both its glories and its tragedies, revealing the industry as a driving force of progress and where it is leading us in the future.
