Nail files are essential for every nail stylist. There are many types on the market, made from different materials and shapes. However, what you should pay more attention to is the grit (or coarseness) of the file. The numbers referred to on files 80, 100, 180, 240 correspond to the number of grains per 1 cm2 of the file. The lower the grade - the thicker the grit.

According to the grading criterion, files are distinguished as:

  • Coarse: 80 grit - used for removing edges and other elements from the nail plate. Mainly used by more experienced nail stylists, as they can be easily damaged.
  • Medium grit: 100 grit - the most frequently chosen classic nail files. Used for arching natural nails, shaping extended nails, as well as for applying gel.
  • Fine grit: 180/240 grit - have many applications, they are very versatile. Ideal for shaping tips, filling nails with acrylic or gel, and for shortening and smoothing natural nails.
  • Buffers: grades above 300 - we distinguish polishing levels that give shine and luster to natural nails. Used to complete a manicure and make it perfectly refined and more beautiful.

When using nail files of various grits, it is worth remembering that you should use coarse grit first and fine grit last. Only this sequence is correct.
