There are two versions, the old one I liked slightly more, a little fuller-bodied, but overall I would say they are comparable. For many, they might prefer the new one because it is lighter and more suitable for intermediate drinkers. It's worth trying either of the two, their flavor profile is wonderful, but at this price, their aging does not meet expectations. For 90 euros, I would say it's good, but for 120+ it's overpriced. It's better than the 23 and Limited Editions, which have a wonderful character (they just lack the years), but not by much and it has double the price. Now let's talk about the taste with a parenthesis (For me, Zacapa as a company has the most magical recipe and flavor combination in rum, but in the last 15 years, they have been cutting corners on the aging process due to the huge demand they have as the "Queen," and to get their gold, you have to pay with diamonds now: Zacapa XO is characterized by moderate sweetness, moderate to high aging (in bourbon, cognac, and cherry wine barrels with very good proportions), notes of dark chocolate, raisins, apricots, cherries, a hint of tobacco and spices and herbs!! In comparison, Zacapa Royal, the flagship, is more woody and dense with all the different aging profiles like a rainbow, more fruity and sweet but not bothersome at all, also an aftertaste of cherries and slightly fewer herbs, peppers, and spices. If Royal was priced like XO, like the old flagship versions (which were even richer), I would be very happy!!
