Description

The HiFiBerry Amp2 is a high-quality and efficient class D amplifier for the Raspberry Pi. Simply mount it on the Raspberry Pi and achieve a stereo sound system. Just connect your speakers. It provides power up to 60W and requires only a 12-24V power supply to operate both the Raspberry Pi and the Amp2. A 12-18V power supply is recommended with 4 Ohm speakers, while higher voltages are suitable only with 8 Ohm speakers. However, the best option is an 18V power supply even with 8 Ohm speakers.

The Amp2 powers the Raspberry Pi without the need for an external 5V power supply.

The Amp2 is designed to work with all speakers or with a resistance of 4-8 Ohm. It supports sampling rates from 44.1-192kHz (16-32bit).

The speaker connections are similar to those of the Amp+. Note that the polarity of one channel is reversed compared to the Amp+. Check the prints on the PCB for the correct polarity!

If the software you are using does not provide the Amp2 as an output option, you will need to use the HiFiBerry DAC+ guide as the Amp2 is essentially a DAC+ with an integrated power stage.

The built-in voltage converter of the Amp2 is powerful enough to even power the new Raspberry Pi 4. Note that it is not designed to power additional high-demand USB devices or other hardware. There will be no problem with low-power devices like mice, keyboards, etc. There may be enough power for external hard drives as well, but the system may become unstable if excessive current is drawn from the USB boards or the 5V line on the GPIOs.
