In 1917, with Greek studies in full bloom on the European educational scene, a study was published by the distinguished linguist A. Debrunner, a professor at the University of Zurich, titled The Formation of Words in Ancient Greek. With completeness and didactic clarity, it explained the constructive principles of the ancient vocabulary. A vocabulary with structural variety, flexibility, and so many other secrets - the disclosure of which requires the intervention of highly experienced specialists.

It immediately became a reference book and manual for teaching ancient Greek in schools and philosophical faculties. Its unique success is the reason that since then, nothing similar has appeared in international literature. Today, in a context of general recession in Greek studies, it was deemed that such a book, translated into our language and with modernized technical terminology, can offer valuable services in renewing the subject in our secondary and higher education - and for this reason, it has been included in the publication series of the Center for the Greek Language.

Very soon, as a database, it will begin to collaborate with the electronic dictionaries and corpora of CGL at the Portal for the Greek Language (www.greek-language.gr), and will dynamically take its place in the arsenal of the Digital School.
