In 1996, Bernard Daure convinced his friends, Jean Pierre Cayard and Claude Florensa, to join him in creating a wine estate in Apalta, Chile. The women of the three families (mothers and daughters) quickly fell in love with the land of Apalta in the Colchagua Valley. In their honor, the winery was named Vina las Ninas, meaning "the wine of the girls." In the local dialect of the indigenous people, Apalta means "earthquake," as the land itself is shaped like a small horseshoe valley, where Carmenere has found a place where it can fully express itself and produce wines of exceptional finesse.
