The collective volume focuses on the learning and assessment of a second language within the context of special education.

On one hand, it examines the most appropriate ways to assess the oral and written language skills of individuals with special educational needs in the second language. On the other hand, it analyzes ways of learning oral and written language in a bilingual context (second/foreign language) by individuals with special educational needs and proposes special teaching interventions for the educational support of these individuals.

The fields studied within the framework of this text include the following: assessment of bilingual populations in special education, identification of specific learning difficulties in children, translated assessments of intellectual vocabulary, accessibility in language certification exams, the role of memory in second language evaluation in students with dyslexia, differentiated instruction in the foreign language classroom, teaching a foreign language to students with special educational needs, both generally and more specifically to students with dyslexia, hearing impairments, writing disorders, and talented students.

Many applications of the above in various languages (such as Italian, Greek, English) in language assessment and in the teaching and learning of the foreign language through the lens of Special Education are also presented.
