In a field where products change frequently, Marconi has remained relevant for more than 15 years and has become a classic Hi-End choice. Now, Brinkmann proudly announces the Marconi Mk II, intended to set a new standard of sonic excellence. Although the line preamplifier is often taken for granted, its three basic functions — input selection, volume control, and the ability to drive any cable and amplifier load — are essential for the proper performance of the system. Fulfilling these functions without signal loss or influence on musical integrity constitutes one of the greatest challenges in electronics design.
Brinkmann accepted no compromises in the development of the Marconi. Our volume control, for example, is purely electronic and operates on two levels. First, the sensitivity or "Trim" of each of the six inputs can be individually adjusted and stored, thus eliminating annoying volume changes when switching sources. Second, the "Master" volume control consists of a motorized potentiometer that can be operated either remotely or from the front panel. This potentiometer digitally controls ICs, which passively adjust playback volume with discrete resistors in precise 0.5 dB steps.
Since the development of the original Marconi, Brinkmann Audio's unique hybrid circuit, which uses bipolar transistors and NOS Telefunken tubes, has evolved, reaching its full potential in our latest designs: the Edison Mk II guitar preamp and the Nyquist Mk II streaming DAC. These developments have now been applied to the Marconi Mk II. This circuit, used as an output in the Edison and Nyquist, has been adapted for use as an input circuit in the Marconi Mk II. The traditional strengths of the Marconi are now enhanced with lower noise, a more detailed and three-dimensional presentation, greater clarity, improved synchronization with audio systems, and longer tube life.
