It prefers very bright locations but can also tolerate direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day. It prefers mild temperatures, but it can survive at temperatures close to freezing if the soil is dry. Water moderately, only when the soil is completely dry. It is sufficient to water once a week in spring and summer, while watering stops completely in winter. The best soil is one that drains well, even better if additionally enriched with inert materials such as perlite, sand, or lava rock. It does not require frequent fertilization, just dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
