Description

Description

During his career, Michael Mann has carved out a unique and innovative path within the Hollywood industry. Films such as "The Last of the Mohicans," "Heat," "The Insider," "Ali," "Collateral," "Miami Vice," and "Public Enemies" have reshuffled the cards of American cinema, making him one of the most important creators of the last three decades.

Born in 1943 in Chicago, Michael Mann directed his first film, "Thief," in 1981. He began to revolutionize by writing television series with "Miami Vice," and in 1995, he released the thriller "Heat," which defined him. With just a few takes, one can recognize Mann's unique filming style: a preference for urban settings—and particularly for Los Angeles, the image of which he managed to renew—stunning night shots, a taste for exceptionally skilled yet solitary men, an obsession with the world of crime, and above all, a reflective perspective in filmmaking that combines charm and melancholy.

Written by the renowned director and critic Jean-Baptiste Thoret, this illustrated study of one of the most unique creators of our time goes beyond art, examining everything that led to Mann's style and success.
