The Great Wall is a new asymmetric worker/soldier placement game with elements of engine-building and a twist in the form of a constantly attacking artificial intelligence (Mongol Horde). Players control ancient Chinese factions trying to defend the Great Wall against the Mongol horde raids. Each faction is unique, thanks to its chosen Leader, and the asymmetry increases as the game progresses, as players will hire Advisors with unique skills.

In The Great Wall, players take on the role of Generals defending the Wall. The game lasts several rounds, called Years, and each Year is divided into 4 Parts, the seasons:

• Spring: new barbarian hordes invade the fields in front of the Wall.
• Summer: the generals prepare for the attack and mobilize their forces.
• Autumn: players take turns playing Command Cards and activating Areas to gain various benefits.
• Winter: the last line of defense is activated, and the hordes attempt to attack the Wall.

During the game, players will create their own unique engines, trying to accumulate the most Honor Points. Honor Points can be earned in many different ways, and at the end of the game, the player with the most Honor Points is declared the winner.
