It completely changes the internet connection experience, but it requires some familiarity from the user for its installation. You can easily create and manage WiFi, VLANs, VPN, and a bunch of other features that are impossible or difficult with the routers provided for free by ISPs. There is also ad blocking, firewall, kids content filter, and many other functions. To fully take advantage of VLANs, it's better to use Ubiquiti devices since they make the whole configuration in their ecosystem very easy. It's definitely worth it, but it's not for those who have no networking knowledge at all.
