Hawaiian Alaea red sea salt has a coarse texture and a mildly salty taste. It is made from seawater and red volcanic clay, which gives it its terracotta color. Slow evaporation preserves the crystals intact, while the salt is not refined and contains no added preservatives.
It is used with grilled meats, especially pork chops, as well as in hot and cold salads, to which it adds a crunchy texture.
