Description

Description

Nominee for the public awards Skroutz Book Awards 2025.

In an autobiographical narrative, Michalis Chrysochoidis recalls with immediacy and honesty the most important milestones of his personal and political journey to date.

His refugee roots, childhood and teenage years on the Island of Imathia, a village in Central Macedonia where he was born and raised, rural life and hard work in the fields, festivals and celebrations, his love for music, youthful dreams, studies at the Law School of Aristotle University, involvement in politics and subsequent career, highlighted by his long tenure at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the ongoing fight against terrorism and the successful dismantling of the November 17 group.

A heartfelt confession and at the same time a revealing panorama of Greece from the 1960s to the present day, referencing all the critical events and figures that marked our post-dictatorship history: the founding of PASOK and its victory in the 1981 elections, Andreas Papandreou and Kostas Simitis, the Koskotas scandal, the "Macedonian issue," the Öcalan case, the decade of memoranda, the Marfin tragedy, immigration, the Evros crisis, the Hydra of armed violence, the connection between terrorism and common and organized crime, among others.

In the first person, Michalis Chrysochoidis unfolds an adventurous journey of political struggles and obstacles, difficult moments and decisions; he shares his thoughts on modernization and populism, the progressive world and extremism, his deep faith in humanity and collective struggles.
