"Many years ago, a video fell into my hands in which I was training my dog, Boogie. I had watched it several times before, but that time I noticed that Boogie was yawning and licking his lips after I pulled his collar. In previous viewings, I was so focused on how well my dog responded to the 'Sit' command that I completely missed these signs.
Having just read Turid Rugaas's book On Talking Terms With Dogs, I noticed and realized that 'yawning' and 'lip licking' were signs of discomfort and that they were Boogie's reactions to the pressure of the collar on his neck. This was a realization that shook me, and since then I could not ignore these signs again.
I was determined to learn more about dog body language to become better towards him. I was surprised that this information was not more widely known, and I decided with my images to share what I was learning with other dog enthusiasts."
