The Martin 00-18 combines the compact body proportions of the Grand Concert (00-14 Fret) with a short 24.9" (632 mm) scale length. This geometry reduces string tension, making fingerstyle techniques and bending easier while providing comfortable support during extended playing sessions. The solid Sitka spruce top offers high stiffness relative to its mass, delivering clear articulation and a wide dynamic range. The solid genuine mahogany back and sides bring clarity to the midrange, a quick attack, and controlled, tight bass, preventing excessive low-frequency buildup during recording or when using a microphone.

Scalloped 1/4" Bracing Architecture & Dovetail Jointing

Inside the instrument, a 1/4" (6.35 mm) Sitka spruce Scalloped X-Bracing system is used. The specialized hand-scalloping reduces the top’s structural mass, allowing it to vibrate with greater amplitude around the bridge area. This design enhances tonal responsiveness and produces rich harmonic content even with a gentle touch on the strings. The neck is joined to the body using the traditional Dovetail Neck Joint, ensuring a rigid wood-to-wood mechanical connection and unobstructed sound-wave transmission throughout the soundbox.

High-Performance Neck Ergonomics & Ebony Components

The neck is made from select hardwood and features the ergonomic Modified Low Oval profile combined with the High-Performance Taper design. This profile maintains a consistent, comfortable thickness from a nut width of 1-3/4" (44.5 mm) to 2-1/8" (54 mm) at the 12th fret, allowing smooth hand movement along the entire length of the fingerboard. The fingerboard and Modern Belly-style bridge are made from solid black ebony, offering excellent resistance to mechanical wear. The nut and compensated saddle, made from natural bone, ensure direct energy transfer to the soundboard and accurate intonation.

Style 18 Aesthetics & Vintage Equipment

The instrument’s aesthetic follows the historic lines of the Style 18 series. The body is finished with thin coats of gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, while the top features an Aging Toner finish for a classic vintage look.
