Gheorghe Crutzescu's book is the most beautiful history of Calea Victoriei, as it was named after 1878, the street that runs from north to south through Bucharest. The book has the fragrance of an atmospheric novel, and to immerse oneself in the atmosphere of old Bucharest, the reader only needs to let Gheorghe Crutzescu guide them along Calea Victoriei and listen to the humorous and immensely talented stories he shares.
There is much to learn about palaces, churches, famous cafes and establishments, old customs and institutions, about voivodes, generals, merchants, great boyars, craftsmen, innkeepers, robbers, socialites, and artists from Bucharest over the last three centuries. Therefore, Podul Mogosoaiei is also the most beautiful urban history book ever written in our country.
Gheorghe Crutzescu, a career diplomat, was born in Bucharest in 1890, into a family of boyars. A law graduate, he fought in World War I, and in 1918 he entered diplomacy. He held various positions either in Romania's diplomatic missions in Europe or in the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but he was also concerned with history and memoir writing. Because of his book, Gheorghe Crutzescu is also a true writer and memoirist.
