Summary:

The story of an orphaned, poor girl who leaves the village where she lived with her grandmother for Athens after a public humiliation. There she is initially hired as a maid in a tiny house, then works in a hair salon, and eventually marries a wealthy man, the husband of one of her clients who dies.
