Description

Description

The genus Ficus belongs to the Moraceae family and is the most popular species for beginner growers in Bonsai cultivation. It has oval leaves of intense green color and is the ideal addition for your home or office. It is a low-maintenance plant with beautiful, dense foliage that helps maintain clean air in the space.

Plant height: 20-30 cm. Pot diameter: 9 cm.

Care instructions

Light: The Ficus bonsai prefers to be placed in a bright spot with plenty of indirect light, as it particularly loves high light intensities.

Water: Water when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil moist at all times, but not excessively, as this will cause leaf drop and root system rot.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range is 16-24 °C. Avoid cold drafts.

Humidity: It can survive in low humidity conditions because of the thickness of its leaves, which prevents easy water loss, but it benefits from occasional misting of its foliage with water.

Fertilization: During the growing season, apply fertilizer for green plants every 15 days and once a month during the rest of the period.

Growing medium/Repotting: Every 2-3 years. Use good quality substrate suitable for indoor plants.

Care tips: Regular pruning is required to maintain the shape of the tree. Prune again at 2 leaves when 6-8 leaves per branch appear. If desired, the Ficus bonsai can be allowed to grow freely for one or two years. Insufficient light or improper watering can cause leaf drop. Occasionally wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to prevent dust accumulation.

Note: Ficus exudes a sticky substance that can be irritating if it comes into contact with the skin. It is recommended to wash your hands thoroughly if it comes into contact with your skin.

Air purification: This plant filters toxins and cleans the air in your home's environment.

Height and growth rate: Height is limited by pruning. It is a medium to fast-growing plant, depending on conditions.

Toxicity: Considered toxic if ingested. Keep away from small children and pets.

Origin: South Asia and Australia.
