The design of the extender allows it to be placed over a typical 6-string bridge, increasing the distance between the strings to enable playing with a steel bar, in the Dobro style.

No modification of the instrument or installation of a new bridge is required. It is simply removed for standard playing. The extension bridge is made of steel with a nickel coating.
