The waterproofing membrane ELASTOPLAST FMIN is a elastomeric bituminous membrane whose mixture consists of distilled modified bitumen with elastomeric (SBS) polymers.
Its upper surface is covered with mineral granules of various colors.
Proper preparation of the substrate surface is necessary before applying the membrane. It requires:
- Repair of any cracks or holes.
- Removal of dust and loose materials.
- Ensuring the surface is smooth, clean, and dry.
Then, a layer of bituminous primer (BITUMOL or STEGANOIL) is applied with a minimum consumption of 400 ml/m² and left to dry. Next, the rolls are arranged and aligned according to the application plan. The membrane is unrolled slowly and the bottom surface is heated using a torch until the bituminous mixture begins to melt.
Side overlaps must be at least 10 cm, while end overlaps must be 15 cm. Using a trowel, the overlaps are well sealed with the molten bituminous mixture. Depending on the requirements of the applied system, the membrane can be partially adhered (overlaps and every 30 cm vertically) or fully adhered. Partial adhesion is encountered only in the first layer of a multi-layer system, while subsequent layers must be fully adhered.
