‘Smaragd’ is a classic, narrow-conical thuja with vivid green foliage year-round. It has a slow–moderate growth rate and maintains density and color even in cold weather. Its distinctive feature is the deep emerald color it retains during both winter and summer.
It is preferred for use in pairs at entrances or pathways, as well as for rhythmic hedges that provide wind protection or privacy. In pots, it can be used on balconies for vertical greenery without bulk.
It requires light pruning in spring and deep pruning on old wood is avoided. Planting is recommended in well-drained, fertile substrate, and regular watering is needed during the first year, after which watering can be less frequent.
