The ceramic outer surface has a porosity of 0.3 microns and is silver-impregnated, while the inside is made of solid activated carbon. The pre-filter traps particles larger than 0.3 microns, and the ceramic surface helps inhibit bacterial growth.

The solid activated carbon reduces chlorine, petroleum products, phenols, heavy metals, organic compounds and volatile compounds, as well as unpleasant tastes and odors. The ceramic outer surface is washable.
