Pikromandola is a creation of the Polykala Distillery, originating from Lixouri in Kefalonia. Its name comes from the Italian word Mandorla, which the people of Kefalonia used instead of the word almond. This particular name prevailed due to its pronunciation, as at that time the island was governed by the Venetians.
