The Handley Page Hampden is a British medium bomber with a fully metal fuselage structure, retractable landing gear, and twin vertical stabilizers.
Main features:
- Two radial engines Bristol Pegasus XVII producing 1000 HP each.
- The prototype first flight took place in 1936.
- Serial production from 1938 to 1941.
- Developed as a response by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1932 to succeed the Bolton Paul Sidestrand aircraft.
- Excellent visibility from the cockpit and good handling characteristics.
- Participated in missions during World War II, mainly in the early months.
Despite its remarkable capabilities, the Hampden suffered significant losses due to lack of armor and poor onboard armament.
