Description

Description

A renewed look at Jeffrey Deitch's seminal exhibition.

Originally exhibited in 1992, Jeffrey Deitch's innovative Post Human exhibition brought together the work of thirty-six emerging artists interested in the new frontiers of body transformation and identity. This prophetic exhibition, which toured five international venues, introduced the art world to the posthuman - how the human body continues to merge with and diverge from technology. Both the exhibition and its catalog, which featured a unique visual curation and innovative design, helped shape the artistic discourse of the 1990s.

Over thirty years later, Deitch revitalized Post Human at his Los Angeles gallery, bringing the themes of the original into the present. The 2024 edition showcased several key figures from the initial exhibition engaging in dialogue with emerging contemporary artists, whose work pushes boundaries and explores how these themes, especially recent technological forms such as AI, have evolved throughout the 21st century.

This timely edition revisits artworks from both versions of the exhibition. Readers will discover color photographs of the exhibited works, as well as Deitch's iconic visual test from the original catalog and texts by contemporary philosopher Rosi Braidotti and critic Philippa Snow. Together, they form a printed testament to the exhibition’s indelible influence and Deitch’s enduring impact on the art world.

The participating artists include: Isabelle Albuquerque, Matthew Barney, Ivana Bašić, Frank Benson, Ashley Bickerton, Maurizio Cattelan, Chris Cunningham, John Currin, Alex Da Corte, Olivia Erlanger, Jana Euler, Rachel Feinstein, Urs Fischer, Pippa Garner, Robert Gober, Hugh Hayden, Damien Hirst, Tishan Hsu, Pierre Huyghe, Anne Imhof, Alex Israel, Arthur Jafa, Jamian Juliano-Villani, Mike Kelley, Josh Kline, Jeff Koons, Paul McCarthy, Sam McKinniss, Mariko Mori, Takashi Murakami, Wangechi Mutu, Cady Noland, Charles Ray, Cindy Sherman, Kiki Smith, Hajime Sorayama, Anna Uddenberg, Cajsa von Zeipel, Jeff Wall, Jordan Wolfson, and Anicka Yi.
