The Shimano SL M820 I-Spec gear shifters are designed for the 2013 Saint series and have been developed for downhill use. The shifters are larger, with the main shifter being 6% bigger and the release shifter 10% larger compared to the previous BL-810, while their design prevents finger slippage. The larger layout makes shifting easier with the Shadow+ axle when the chain stabilization mechanism is engaged. The matching is more noticeable and resistance has been reduced thanks to the applied bearing system. The operation of the mechanism follows Shimano's standard solutions. The cable release with the Instant Release mechanism occurs even before the finger releases from the shifter, which can be pressed with the thumb or pulled back with the index finger. With a press, it is possible to shift two gears simultaneously.
