This second volume on French-language dramatic works examines contemporary and ultra-modern theatrical plays written in the French language by creators who draw their origins from and have as their national, experiential, cultural, and linguistic background the geographic region of the Maghreb (Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, and Libya).
The main focus of our analysis is French colonization, a unique historical condition that played a significant role in the emergence and development of French-language drama by Maghrebi creators. The research also aims to highlight creators, their works, and the developmental periods of Maghrebi French-speaking theater of migration and post-migration in France (theater of migrant workers, beur and suburban theater, Maghrebi memory theater), as well as its connections with the distinctive origins and cultural identity of the Maghreb.
Within this context, the overall multifaceted and original character of Maghrebi French-language dramas will be demonstrated, including their sources of inspiration, thematic choices, aesthetic elements, ideological stakes, and artistic performances.
