QLED Upgrade

Super QLED technology offers a 69% increase in color dot accuracy

Five advantages that place it at the forefront of display technology

  • Clear and stable colors for all scenes — monochrome or multicolor, it's always impressive!
  • With Super Quantum Dot technology, the SQD-Mini LED produces exceptionally pure white light, ensuring unique stability and performance for all settings.

Precise Color Control

In SQD-Mini LED televisions, the adjacent zones emit white light without interference, effectively eliminating color crossover. Combined with superior light control technology, this significantly reduces color shift and light diffusion, ensuring that colors remain vibrant.

More Dimming Zones

As a key factor for the picture quality of Mini LED, a greater number of local dimming zones offers superior contrast.

Higher brightness

As another key factor in the picture quality of Mini LED, the higher peak brightness reveals rich details in both bright and dark areas.

Thinner

The slimmer the design, the more it upgrades your living space.

2040 Precise Dimming Zones

TCL All-domain Halo Control Technology Deeper blacks, higher brightness

The Precise Dimming Series refers to Mini LED TVs with all-domain halo control technology. The new generation Powerful Light-emitting Chip, Super Condensed Micro Lens, and Micro-OD make the lighting shape of individual zones more perfect, and its ability to control light halos is multiple times greater compared to conventional zones. Combined with CSOT WHVA 2.0 panel technology with a higher native contrast ratio and the world-leading Light and Shadow Control Algorithm, the Precise Dimming Series shapes true light and shadow so that the overall image performance of the TV is dramatically improved compared to conventional televisions, offering a high-quality viewing experience.

The condensed micro lens technology developed by TCL precisely controls the direction of light through the arch bridge dimming design. The choice of nano-optical materials with greater plasticity forms a golden curvature with superior light-focusing properties, and accurately controls the light point by point, significantly improving the uniformity of the backlight and the halo control capabilities, making image details much clearer.

It seems like an excellent choice, especially for the money. Its Android operating system is very fast. It’s worth searching online to find out how to customize it with the various apps available. It takes some research; it isn’t simple, but it can be changed. I personally really like its picture quality, and the sound too. Time will tell about the rest.

This review is about the size: 75 "

Incredible picture, premium experience and unbeatable value for money!

Whatever I say about this TV won’t do it justice, but I’ll try to convey my experience as thoroughly and objectively as I can, covering both its strengths and weaknesses.

To give you an idea, I’m coming from a basic 2021 LG 55” LED TV with an IPS panel. Since my living room is quite bright, my main criterion was high brightness, without compromising on picture quality.

    THE POSITIVES

    1. Blacks and contrast

The blacks are truly impressive. I’d say the experience comes within 90–95% of an OLED, at least based on what I perceive in everyday viewing. The contrast is excellent, and the picture is truly enjoyable in dark scenes.

    2. Brightness

One of the main reasons I chose Mini LED over OLED. The brightness is incredible, and even during the day, with plenty of natural light in the room, the picture remains excellent.

    3. Colors

The colors are incredible, with beautiful vibrancy and depth. There are plenty of color profiles and settings, allowing everyone to tailor the picture to their preferences, whether they prefer a more natural or more striking result.

    4. Google TV

The operating system is extremely fast and smooth. Personally, I consider Google TV the best and most flexible operating system for TVs, mainly because of its wide range of apps and customization options.

I don’t feel any need to buy a separate TV Box, which is a major advantage for me over the more limited operating systems from LG and Samsung.

    5. Premium remote control

The remote control is another detail that shows TCL’s attention to build quality and the overall user experience.

It has a premium design, a metallic feel and backlit buttons, which is especially practical when watching TV at night in low or no light. You can easily see the buttons without having to turn on a light.

At the same time, its design is elegant, minimalist and functional. It may sound like a minor detail, but in everyday use it really makes a difference and enhances the TV’s premium feel.

    6. Design

The TV is beautiful! With its exceptionally thin bezels, modern design and premium appearance, it aesthetically elevates the entire living room.

    7. Reflections

Although my living room is quite bright, I personally don’t have any significant issues with reflections. Even when there’s plenty of natural light, the TV’s very high brightness largely counteracts reflections, so the picture remains clear and enjoyable.

    SOUND

Obviously, it can’t replace a quality external sound system or a good soundbar, but the built-in sound is genuinely very good.

For movies, TV shows and everyday use, I think it more than meets the needs of the average user.

If someone wants the ultimate cinematic experience, they can of course invest in a good external sound system, ideally one costing €300 or more. Otherwise, I don’t think buying a soundbar is essential.

    THE MUCH-DISCUSSED “WEAKNESSES”

Before buying it, I’d read quite a few reviews and discussions about two main drawbacks: viewing angles and blooming.

Let’s see what I found in practice.

    1. Viewing angles

Here, I genuinely think there has been quite a lot of discussion about something that is unlikely to bother most people in practice.

Up to 45–50°: Personally, I don’t notice any significant loss in picture quality.

50–65°: There is a slight drop in quality, which I’d estimate visually at around 5–10%. Nothing particularly significant or bothersome in everyday viewing.

Above 65–70°: That’s where the degradation does become more noticeable.

But let’s be realistic. How many people buy a TV in this category to watch from such extreme angles?

    2. Blooming

Personally, I haven’t noticed any blooming under normal viewing conditions.

Only when I go beyond a viewing angle of around 55–60 degrees can I spot a very slight effect, which is to be expected with this technology.

Even then, I really have to look for it to notice.

The most telling thing is that if I hadn’t read about these two drawbacks online, I probably would never have noticed them. I had to deliberately look for them to spot them!

    GAMING

I don’t have a console yet, so I can’t give a personal opinion on its gaming performance. I prefer not to assess something I haven’t tried.

    PRICE AND VALUE FOR MONEY

The TV cost me €1,640 through Skroutz, with an additional 10% cashback through a Eurobank promotion and 5% back in Skroutz Points.

With these cashback offers, buying it was truly a no-brainer!

Without those specific offers, I might have given the TCL C7L more serious consideration.

In fact, I saw both TVs side by side in person, and I can say that the C7L is also excellent.

However, I noticed that the C7L had noticeably worse viewing angles, which played a significant role in my final choice.

I think the C7L may even be a better choice in terms of pure value for money, but personally I preferred to pay a little extra to get a more complete viewing experience, without constantly thinking about the compromises.

And to be clear, personally I don’t think the C8L has any meaningful competition at around this price, even if we increase the budget by €500!

You’d have to spend quite a bit more to find a TV that offers a noticeably better overall experience.

MINI LED VS OLED: MY PERSONAL OPINION

Yes, of course a good OLED has even better blacks, perfect pixel-level contrast and excellent viewing angles.

I don’t dispute any of that.

On the other hand, however, OLED still carries a real, albeit now quite limited, risk of burn-in.

Comparable premium OLEDs, especially in larger sizes, can cost significantly more, while a powerful Mini LED can offer higher brightness, particularly across large bright areas.

Additionally, Google TV is a significant advantage for me, since LG and Samsung OLEDs don’t offer it.

If I had an unlimited budget, I’d of course seriously consider an LG G6, which, however, costs over €4,000 in the equivalent large size!

So the question isn’t whether there’s a better TV than the TCL C8L. There obviously is.

The question is how much better it is and how much extra you need to pay for that difference.

    FINAL CONCLUSION

For me, the TCL C8L is one of the most well-rounded TVs you can buy today.

It offers outstanding brightness, incredible blacks, gorgeous colors, an exceptionally fast Google TV, very good sound and premium build quality.

It has drawbacks, as every technology does, but personally I think they are far less significant in everyday use than they’re made out to be in many discussions.

I’m not claiming it’s the best TV on the market. However, I think that at this price there’s nothing better overall, not even if you spend €500 more.

And one last thing I think is important: I believe the average user would be hard-pressed to find any significant fault with this TV. If someone is a true enthusiast, seeks the ultimate picture quality and absolutely wants the market’s top flagship, it’s perfectly reasonable to consider even more expensive options.

However, for the average person, I think such an upgrade would be more overkill than a genuine necessity. After all, let’s not forget that the TCL C8L is already a premium TV, not some compromise mid-range model. It offers a truly high-end viewing experience, without anyone needing to spend a fortune to get something marginally better.

Coming from a basic 55-inch LED, the upgrade is truly enormous!

I haven’t regretted a single euro of my purchase.

Well done, TCL! Truly impressive work.
