Deutzia × hybrida 'Strawberry Fields' is a popular medium-sized deciduous ornamental shrub, renowned for its abundant flowering with striking two-tone flowers. It produces dense clusters of star-shaped flowers with a delicate fragrance. The outer part of the flowers is deep dark red or raspberry pink, while the inner part is soft pink with white shades.
It blooms from late spring to early summer (May to June). It has an elegant, arching appearance with branches that gently droop down under the weight of the flowers. It usually grows to about 1.5 meters in height and width within 10 years. The leaves are dense, green, and lance-shaped, falling in autumn.
It prefers full sun locations for maximum flowering but tolerates light partial shade.
Pruning should be done immediately after flowering. Cut the flowering shoots back to healthy new buds and remove about 1/5 of the old branches from the base to renew the plant.
It is ideal for mixed shrub borders, as a standalone plant in small gardens, or for planting in large pots on balconies.
