Review this product
  • I use the Baader Hyperion 17mm on the Sky-Watcher 200PDS, and it has become one of my essential eyepieces. It offers very comfortable viewing, a wide field of view, and a clear, bright image, without tiring the eye even during long observing sessions.

On this particular telescope, it gives about 59× magnification, so it is excellent for open clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and also for a more complete view of the Moon. It is a very good intermediate eyepiece: it provides enough magnification to bring out details while still maintaining a fairly wide field of view.

An important note for those who do not know it: this model is not designed to work as a standard 2" eyepiece. On the telescope, it must always be used with the 1.25" adapter.

Its construction is solid and high quality, although it is quite heavy and may require a small telescope rebalance. I have not used it yet in connection with a camera, so my assessment refers exclusively to its performance in visual observing.

Overall, this is an excellent and very versatile eyepiece, ideal both for personal observing and for organized astronomy nights with an audience. A very good purchase and definitely one of those that stays constantly in the equipment case.

Description & Specifications

Baader Hyperion 68° eyepieces offer a 68° field of view and 20 mm eye relief. Their optical design, with 8 elements in 5 groups, delivers sharp images and faithful color across the field, while the internal light-absorbing system reduces stray-light reflections and ghosting.

The fold-down rubber eyecups are suitable for use with or without glasses. The series is also designed for binocular use, with a narrow barrel and a short field-stop distance. Removable negative lens groups allow the focal length to be changed using fine-tuning rings; the 24 mm model does not support this use.
