The model supports Wi-Fi 6 / 802.11ax and offers combined speeds up to 3000 Mbps — up to 574 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz frequency and up to 2402 Mbps on the 5 GHz frequency.

The router uses the MT7981BA + MT7976CN + MT7531AE chipset and features a dual-core 1.3 GHz processor, 256 MB DDR3 memory, and 128 MB NAND Flash storage, ensuring high performance for multiple connected devices, video streaming, online gaming, and everyday internet use. With support for MIMO multipath technology and 5 external 5 dBi antennas, the RT2980 is designed to provide more stable coverage and better connection in different spaces.

The model also supports EasyMesh networking, making it suitable for larger homes, maisonettes, and small offices with multiple rooms. The operating system is OpenWrt v21.02, offering more options for network management, settings, VPN configurations, and additional software packages.
