Oxalis versicolor is a popular variety of the family, also known as Candy Cane Sorrel. This variety stands out for the contrast of pure white with vibrant red.

When the buds are closed, they form a spiral with red and white stripes. When they open, under the sun, they reveal white flowers with an elegant red edge on their petals. The flowers only open with warm sunlight and close at night or on cloudy days.

It creates a dense, low “carpet” of delicate, bright green leaves, with a height ranging from 7 to 15 centimeters. It blooms from late autumn to the early months of winter, offering color at a time when most plants have withered.

Oxalis versicolor is ideal for shallow pots, window boxes, or terracottas. It is recommended to place it in a sunny spot. Without direct sunlight, the flowers remain closed. It is suggested to plant 10 to 15 bulbs in a small pot at a depth of 3-5 centimeters for a richer effect. Use light soil and ensure the pot has holes at the bottom for proper water drainage.

The plant is perennial. Once spring and summer arrive, the foliage will dry out and fall as it goes dormant, with watering stopping completely and the pot placed in a shady, dry place until the next autumn.
