It wasn't the USB port's fault, I tried it on another computer, even with a separate power supply. It just seemed like I got the faulty one.
I don't know if they were generally problematic (I didn't get the same model as a replacement) but the sound was very low for their nominal power, even at maximum volume. Additionally, at some point they started interfering with my other USB devices (the wireless keyboard wasn't working).
I probably won't buy USB powered again. Even for very low requirements, I don't think they have enough power.

It is annoying when the speakers are on and there is no music playing, but when there is sound (music or from a video) then this buzzing noise is covered.
