The proceedings of the scientific symposium titled "Crime Fiction," held with great success, have been published by the Society for the Study of Modern Greek Culture and General Education. The aim of the event was to analyze the unprecedented flourishing of crime fiction in Greece and worldwide over the last twenty years.
As experts in this genre of literature, among those invited to speak were Andreas Apostolidis, Vasilis Danellis, Lakis Dolgeras, Giannis Zervas, Kostas Kalfopoulos, Dimosthenis Kourtovik, Apostolos Lycessas, Ioannis-Iolaos Maniatis, Petros Martinidis, Teukros Michailidis, Kostas Mouzourakis, Manolis Pimplis, Marlena Politopoulou, Chrysa Spyropoulou, and Philippos Philippou. Among the topics discussed are the origins of Greek crime fiction as well as its prospects and future, the timeless rules governing the genre, the detective hero Sherlock Holmes as a symbol of the world of industrialization, science, and logic, and the challenges facing the crime genre in times of crisis. Additionally, the stories of Giannis Maris and Petros Markaris are explored, the infiltration of mathematics into modern crime fiction, and the experiential relationship of the crime writer with their characters and settings.
