Description & Specifications

And if Dream supposedly raises walls in the valley of Time, Time makes it believe that it is born from pain.

“On August 19, 1931, exactly five years before his execution, Federico García Lorca completes in Granada the As í que pasen cinco años (When Five Years Pass), a play he began writing in Cuba in 1930, which, together with El Público (The Public) from 1930 and the unfinished La comedia sin título (Comedy Without Title), belongs to the unofficial trilogy of the so-called 'Teatro imposible' ['Impossible Theatre']."

In these works, we encounter a surrealist Lorca, heavily influenced by Freud's theories and the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century; a Lorca who is notably distant from the chronologically later and clearly better-known realistic ethnographic themes of his rural dramas: Blood Wedding (1933), Yerma (1934), and The House of Bernarda Alba (1936).

In Lorca's When Five Years Pass, we do not find the hot air and the mourning figures of Andalusian tragedy, but many of his theatrical constants are present, such as poetic language or the tragic nature of the characters and their inability to experience, even fleetingly, happiness.

In short, while the expressive vehicle may differ in the surrealist Lorca, the journey into the depths of the human soul (Lorca's timeless 'weakness') remains equally intriguing.” Konstantinos Paleologos (from the preface of the edition)
