Dimitris Fatouros

Dimitris Fatouros (August 30, 1928 - November 7, 2020) was born in Athens. He graduated as an architect from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1952. From 1953 to 1959, he served as a curator at NTUA under D. Pikionis and N. Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas. He was a professor at the Department of Architecture at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) from 1959 to 1996 and served as the university's rector from 1983 to 1988. Since 1996, he held the title of Professor Emeritus at AUTH. In 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Patras. Fatouros was a Visiting Fellow at Yale University from 1966 to 1967 and lectured at numerous universities across Europe, the USA, and elsewhere. He was elected president of the Panhellenic Association of Architects (SADAS) in 1973 and 1974. He served as Minister of Education from 1993 to 1994 and held leadership positions in various scientific centers and organizations at different times. Fatouros received awards in architectural competitions and designed numerous public and private buildings, which have been published in Greek and international editions and exhibited in Greek and international exhibitions. He held a solo exhibition at the Benaki Museum in 2009. His work has been published extensively in Greek and international journals and other publications.
