Kyriakos Ntelopoulos
Kyriakos Delopoulos (1933-2020) was born in Corfu and grew up in Patras, where his family moved when he was three years old. He studied at the Commercial Department of the Athens College (1951-52), the Department of English Literature at the University of Athens (1953), and library science at the YWCA School (1967-68). He pursued a career as a librarian at the Athens College library (1952-1985), where he completed his professional journey as its director, having established the children's library of the elementary school. He was particularly focused on library science, dedicating many theoretical and practical works to its study, especially in the field of organizing and creating a school library. Bibliography was also a significant area of research for him, characterizing almost all of his written work. He was the author of numerous bibliographic and theoretical works. He studied the field of 19th-century children's literature in relation to general literature, in works such as "Children's and Youth Books of the 19th Century" (ELIA, based on the 19th-century bibliography of Philippos Iliou, his collaborators, and successors, awarded by the Academy of Athens in 1995) and "The Children's Readings of Our Grandfathers" (Patakis, 2008). He wrote a total of fifty books, including works on library science, bibliography, literature, humor, children's books, studies, and philological research, among which is "Modern Greek Literary Pseudonyms" (1st edition Athens College, 1969, 3rd revised edition Estia Bookstore 2006, awarded by the Academy of Athens). His activities also embraced the book as a translator (works by William Faulkner, George Orwell, Lillian Hellman, and "Jazz" by Marshall Stearns), as an author of personal narratives ("Akis and the Others," "Akis in Arms," "Akis and Dorothea," "...And His Name Was...," etc.), as a humorist/anthologist (with the books "Upside Down" and "Operation Pearls"). Photography was another field in which he excelled, with solo exhibitions, participation in group exhibitions, and four books. After 1961, he collaborated with Greek and foreign scientific and literary journals on topics within his expertise. From 1977, he collaborated with the newspaper "Kathimerini" as a book critic and presenter of publications. He was a pioneer in recording new publications in our country, with the pamphlets "Greek Books" published between 1975-1978 (Grigoris Publications), as well as with the quarterly "Bulletin of Greek Bibliography" of POEB, with nine issues between 1991-1993. Between 1996-1998, he worked at EKEBI as the head of its bibliological library, as a bibliographer, and as an editor of exhibitions and catalogs. Concurrently, he served as a consultant for publishing houses, bookstores, and libraries, organized conferences, and was a member of many literary and cultural associations. He was a founding member of the Society of Authors and the Union of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists, a founding member of the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive (ELIA), and a board member of the Circle of the Greek Children's Book.
He passed away on May 24, 2020, at the age of 87.
