CHariton E. Tompoulidis

Chariton E. Tomboulidis was born in 1955 in Naoussa, Imathia. He is a graduate of the Department of Mathematics at the School of Physics and Mathematics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Department of Astrophysics at the Institute of Astronomy of Stockholm University, and holds a Ph.D. in Astrophysics (Ph. L, Fil Lie). As a research astronomer-astrophysicist, he specialized in Galactic and Extragalactic Radio Astronomy. From 1979 to 1983, he worked as a Professor of Astrophysics at Stockholm University and from 1981 to 1994 as a Professor of Astronomy at the People's University of Stockholm. From 1985 to 1994, he also taught Greek in Stockholm schools and served as a teacher at the Greek Embassy's leisure schools in Stockholm. Since the fall of 1994, he has been teaching at the 1st Lyceum of Naoussa. In 1996, along with three of his students (the team "The Astronomers of Vermio"), he won the third prize in the European Southern Observatory (ESO) competition titled "Europe Targets the Stars." As a member of the 1st Regional Training Center of Thessaloniki, he actively participated in the training of teachers in Central Macedonia as part of educational reform. Additionally, as a member of the Hellenic Astronomical Society, he took part in the joint conference of the European Astronomical Society and the Hellenic Society (JENAM-97) held in Halkidiki in July 1997. That same year, he founded the Naoussa Astronomy and Space Society, where he continues to serve as president (http://astronaoussa.webs.com).
