Marianna Papoutsopoulou

Marianna Papoutsopoulou was born in 1951 in Athens. She studied history-archaeology, literature, and languages in Thessaloniki and Athens. She worked for thirty years in private secondary education. She lives in Athens and has two beloved sons. She has been writing and translating from a young age but published relatively late. She has published poetry collections such as "Poleros," Gavrielides, 2001; "Diadromos," Gavrielides, 2008; "The Lifebuoy Feather," Gavrielides, 2015. In prose, she has published "In the Current and Against the Tide," short stories, Iridanos, 2013; "Mama Frank," a novella, Gavrielides, 2013; "Spears and Sheaths," short prose, Small Editions, 2017; "Weather Vane," a novel, Evmaros, 2018. Her literary translations include works such as L. Durrell's "The Alexandria Quartet," Metaichmio, 2009; M. Proust's "On Baudelaire," Koukoutsi, 2017; Ch. Baudelaire's "The Flowers of Evil," Koukoutsi, 2019; Ch. Baudelaire's "Paris Spleen" & "An Opium-Eater," Bibliotheque, 2019; Robert L. Crist's "Companion Sonnets," AΩ Publications, 2019. She has also contributed to collective editions: "Eros-Crisis," a poetic calendar, eyelands, 2014; "Otherness," craftbook II, m.E., 2015; "Poets of 2015," a small anthology, 2016; "Co-Poetry," an electronic anthology for school use, 2018; "Gothic Stories by Modern Writers" (collective translation), Ars nocturna, 2018; "Treasures of Sand," poetry of the Greek crisis, bilingual, trans. R. and D. Crist, AΩ Publications, 2019. She has occasionally published poems, translations, critical essays, articles, and prose in literary journals and electronic magazines, in the daily press, and online (Nea Estia, Kopilates, Koukoutsi, Entefktirio, To Kamini, Prosopa, Avgi, Kathimerini, Bibliotheque, Fractal, Frear, Peri Ou, etc.). "Dark Complexion" includes poems from the years 2010-2019, written in search of the veins of beauty and love in a challenging era for the people of our planet.
