Nikos K. Nikitaridis
Nikos Nikitaridis is, but above all feels, an Egyptian Greek. Although he is the only one in his family born in Greece (1969), he carries in his soul the memories of the lives of all his relatives who lived in the land of the Nile. As the child of artist parents with roots from Chalki, Symi, Cyprus, Crete, and Amorgos, who were involved for years in amateur theater—and more—in Alexandria and Suez, he inherited his inclination towards literature. He has published collections of poems and short stories, edited publications, and contributed over 1,000 articles of various kinds to Egyptian and non-Egyptian magazines and newspapers in Greece, Egypt, and Australia, as well as several studies and lectures on the history of Greeks in Egypt. He has received two first prizes for poetry and an honorable mention for a short story in Greek South Africa, as well as a third prize for a short story in a nationwide competition in Greece.
His published works include "Kraterotas" (private edition, 1990), "Patriarchates of Alexandria and Jerusalem" (Aggelakis Editions, 1991), "Yemen: Travel Notes" (Aggelakis Editions, 1999), "Literary Visions from Cavafy's Poetry" (Hellenic Letters Editions, 2000), "Egypt, Greece, and the Egyptian Greek Contribution" (Egyptian Greek Association Editions, 2007), "George Iordanidis: Theatrical Journey" (Hellenic Community of Cairo Editions, 2004), "Introduction to the History of Greek Freemasonry in Egypt" (Aggelakis Editions, 2009), "Traveling in Arab Time" (private edition, 2011), "100 Egyptian Greek Portraits" (Greek-Egyptian Friendship Association Editions, 2011), "Egyptian Greek Publications in Greece and the World" (Aggelakis Editions, 2012), and "Ancient Greek Egyptians" (Aggelakis Editions, 2013). In 2005, he contributed to the album "A Greek Century in Cairo, 1904-2004" (Hellenic Community of Cairo Editions). Most of his books are available in support of the Social Welfare of the Egyptian Greek Association.
He has served as Special Secretary, General Secretary, and Second Vice President of the Egyptian Greek Association, as well as Special Secretary of the Egyptian Greek Association of Suez & Port Tewfik. For his contributions to the Egyptian Greek community, he has been honored with the Holy Cross of the Apostle and Evangelist Mark by His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, as well as by the Egyptian Greek Association for his invaluable contributions. Nikos Nikitaridis is a graduate of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Law School of Athens, resides permanently in Athens, and works at O.T.E.
