
Spyridon Lontos
Protopresbyter Fr. Spyridon Londos was born in Athens in 1968. After completing his general education, he studied at the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens (1986-1989) and the Pastoral Department of the Theological School of the University of Athens (1989-1993). On December 20, 1987, he was ordained as a Reader at the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Xanthi by the late Metropolitan of Xanthi and Peritheorion, Antonios (Klaoudatos). He served his military service in the ranks of the Hellenic Navy (1989-1991) as an associate of the Chief of Religious Affairs of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, Archimandrite Timotheos Manoleas.
In 1992, he participated in the team representing the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in archaeological excavations in the city of Paneas (Caesarea) in Israel, under the supervision of Professor Nikolaos Olympios from the Theological School of the University of Athens. He holds a Diploma in Byzantine Music and taught the art of ecclesiastical chanting. For many years, he served as a chanter in churches in Athens and was a member of the Greek Byzantine Choir.
He was ordained as a Deacon on November 16, 1997, and as a Priest on December 12, 1997, at the Church of Zoodochos Pigi on Akadimias Street, where he continues to serve, by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestiada, and Soufli, Damaskinos.
He attended a Postgraduate Program in the Department of Biblical Studies and Mediterranean Cultural Life at the Department of Social Theology of the University of Athens and completed a thesis for a Master's Degree with the topic "Shechem during the Patriarchal Era," earning the degree with distinction.
He is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Interpretation at the Department of Theology of the University of Athens. Additionally, he is the President of the Parish Philoptochos Fund of the Church of Zoodochos Pigi on Akadimias Street, a member of the "European Association of Biblical Studies," the "Panhellenic Union of Theologians," the "Parnassos Literary Society," the "Union of Writers," and the "Friends of the Gennadius Library."
He speaks English and is learning German. He has authored and published books on theological and historical subjects, participates in conferences in Greece and abroad, and writes for Orthodox magazines.
