Alice Miller
Alice Miller (1923-2010) studied philosophy, psychology, and sociology in Basel, Switzerland. After completing her doctoral dissertation, she trained as a psychoanalyst in Zurich and practiced this profession for 20 years while also teaching. In 1980, she decided to cease her psychoanalytic and teaching practice to focus on writing books. She published a total of 13 books (translated into 30 languages to date), through which she brought to the public's attention the results of her research on the causes and consequences of childhood trauma. Alice Miller systematically explored the hidden manipulations of parents during child-rearing, various strategies for safeguarding against childhood trauma, the personal and social consequences of repressing these traumas, and, finally, modern possibilities for analyzing the effects of childhood traumas. Her research earned her international recognition.
