Konstantina Tsampoukou - Skanavi
Konstantina Tsampoukou-Skanavi is an Associate Professor in Environmental Education, Didactics, and Communication at the Department of Environment, University of the Aegean. Her initial studies focused on Microbiology (B.S. and M.S. in Microbiology) and she earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Health from UCLA. From her graduation until her return to Greece and her appointment at the University of the Aegean, she taught at California State University, Los Angeles (1988-2000). Besides the book "Environment and Communication: The Right to Choose," she has authored another book in Greek titled "Environment and Society: A Relationship in Continuous Evolution."
Trained in the rigorous scientific field of environmental microbiology and involved in environmental health programs, she faced the challenge of promoting scientific information to the public. This led her to invest in the potential offered by environmental communication and interpretation, which are subfields of environmental education.
Her interest lies in the scientifically structured education and training of "environmental educators," both in formal and non-formal education (museums, parks, etc.), as well as in informal education (Mass Media). She considers children, who are tomorrow's decision-makers, and women, who require special support due to their multiple roles, as her immediate priorities. Her ultimate goal is for everyone to acquire the necessary abilities and skills to exercise the right to choose in environmental matters effectively.
