Jacques Rancière
The French philosopher Jacques Rancière was born in Algeria in 1940. He studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and is an emeritus professor at the University of Paris VIII. In 1965, he collaborated with his mentor Louis Althusser on the publication of "Lire le Capital." However, following the events of May 1968, he distanced himself from the Althusserian circle. Since then, striving to blur the boundaries between philosophy, politics, literary criticism, aesthetics, history, and pedagogy, he has engaged with major themes of political emancipation, democracy, and equality. His books published in Greek include "The Ignorant Schoolmaster" (Nisos, 2008) and "Hatred of Democracy" (Pedio, 2010). Other works by him include "Aux bords du politique," "La Nuit des prolétaires," "La Mésentente," "Les Noms de l'histoire," "Le Spectateur émancipé," "L'Inconscient esthétique," "L'Espace des mots," "Politique de la littérature," "Les Scènes du Peuple," "La Parole muette," and "Aisthesis: Scenes from the Aesthetic Regime of Art."
