Giorgos Kolempas

Giorgos Kolembas was born in 1950 in Epirus, Greece. He completed his secondary education in Piraeus and studied mathematics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1968-1972), followed by postgraduate studies in computer science (Aufbaustudium Informatik) in Munich (1974-1977). Between 1986 and 1990, while teaching at the Greek Gymnasium-Lyceum of Frankfurt, he pursued studies in ecology at the University of Frankfurt. As a secondary education teacher (1978-2008), he organized numerous environmental programs and participated in local social and ecological citizen movements. Since 1990, when he settled in Pelion, he also became an eco-farmer, aiming to promote and organize organic eco-production in Greece and the distribution of ecological products. Since 2008, he has been involved in shaping localization strategies as part of the broader proposal for degrowth, in response to globalization and the transition to a decentralized, re-localized, self-managed, and ecological society of equitable distribution.
