We have all heard about the "Recycling - Changing Water Heaters" program, but what is it and how can you participate?

This is a program that was implemented with the aim of promoting energy saving in Greece, by replacing old electric water heaters with solar ones. The program provides a subsidy for solar water heaters to private homeowners (not businesses).

Applications are submitted electronically from 15/05 to 20/6 through allazothermosifona.gov.gr 

When does the platform open and when does it close?

Applications opened gradually for all tax ID numbers. Specifically, from May 15 (15/5), all tax ID numbers could submit an application for the subsidy. The application platform closed on June 20 (20/06)

How will I know if I was approved?

The results were announced on 27/07 and if your application was approved, you will have received an SMS on the mobile number you provided. You can also log in to Gov.gr and sign in via taxisnet to see the progress of your application

Can I use the Voucher on Skroutz.gr?

Of course you can! We have created a separate page for the solar water heaters included in the program. You can go in and choose the one that suits you. 

Then, on the product page, you will find the option “Recycle – Change Water Heater”

Then, all you need to do is fill in the postal code of the house for which the solar is intended and we will suggest the appropriate store.

Step 1 - Go to your cart, check that you have added the correct product, and select the green button that says "Proceed to checkout"

Step 2 - Fill in the address where you want it to be sent and select the green button that says "Payment details"

Step 3 - On this page, at the bottom, select the option "Recycle-Exchange Program" and fill in your VAT number, the voucher code, and the discount percentage that has been approved.

Step 4 - After correctly filling in the voucher details, the discount will be applied to your cart and you can proceed to payment. Only card payment is supported for this specific service.

Water Heater Recycling

To receive the subsidy for purchasing a new solar water heater, you need to hand over the old water heater for recycling. The handover is always made to the retailer from whom the new solar water heater is purchased.

You can hand over the old water heater for recycling:

• At a workshop or through a partner of the retailer, who collects it from your home. Collection can take place at the same time as the delivery of the new solar water heater or during a separate visit.

• Alternatively, you can deliver it directly to a facility (store, warehouse) of the retailer. However, transport to this location is your responsibility.

The choice of the time and place for the delivery and collection of the old water heater for recycling depends on the agreement reached between you.

Transportation, collection, etc. costs are not covered by the subsidy.

Solar Subsidy: What Applies?

More specifically, the following apply regarding the subsidy:

• The subsidy for purchasing a new solar water heater amounts to up to 60% of the total cost.

• Each beneficiary will receive a voucher that can be redeemed with a supplier from the Register of Approved Suppliers

• The maximum amount subsidized for beneficiaries also includes the installation cost.

• The final value of each voucher depends on the characteristics of the solar water heater (such as capacity) and its initial purchase price. You can find the detailed list of approved solar water heaters in the Unified Register of Approved Equipment
