A collection that has just gained a new member, as Nike has officially unveiled the seventh signature basketball shoe of Giannis, the Nike Giannis Freak 7!

Designed for Euro step

Nike presents the new Giannis Freak 7, designed to enhance the performance of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the hardest-working hoopers. The seventh piece in Giannis’s signature Nike line is created with a specific move in mind: the most lethal Euro step in global basketball. It will be released in multiple colorways and you can simply add all the colors to your favorites to be the first to know when they become available on Skroutz!

"ANTETOKOUNMPO" Traction Pattern

Starting with the traction needed to cut, start, stop, and perform a Euro step at the highest level, Nike's designers developed a new "ANTETOKOUNMPO" traction pattern. 

It features a stiffer feel on the lateral side of the silhouette and a smoother feel on the inside, helping Giannis and hoopers like him create crucial separation and leave defenders in the dust.

Cushlon 3.0 Sole

For the first time in Nike Basketball, this performance innovation is combined with a full-length, wall-to-wall midsole, Cushlon 3.0. It covers the entire length and offers, in an accessible silhouette, the comfort and responsiveness required for hoopers who dedicate many hours to improving their game.

Additionally, the midsole, outsole, and upper of the Giannis Freak 7 feature mechanically engineered grooves that flex and compress, helping Giannis and other powerful hoopers move efficiently around, through, and over the competition every time they step on the court.

“Many say that I am not a power forward, I am a basketball player. I play like a guard and it’s hard for others to put me in one position,” says Giannis. 

“I need to cover space quickly, so my shoe has to have incredible traction and be stable enough to move from side to side when I play. The Giannis Freak 7 achieves this and even more, offering the performance I need to elevate my game, with a design that reminds me of my heritage and how hard I’ve worked to get here.”

Behind the Design

“We approached the Giannis Freak 7 with a modern and holistic design language, redefining the iconic Greek sandal into a containment structure tailored to the demands of Giannis’s trademark and his explosive Euro step,” says Ross Klein, Senior Director Men’s Basketball Footwear Product Design at Nike.

“Designed to reflect the rhythm of Giannis’s game, the silhouette combines contemporary energy and fluid movement with the traction and lateral containment required to perform at the highest level.”

Foot containment

To assist with cuts and effective Euro steps, Nike's designers created an upper inspired by both Giannis's and Nike's heritage. The Giannis Freak 7s resemble Greek sandals that lock the heel, while also helping with foot containment, both on the medial and lateral sides.

Details

Giannis's surname is written on the traction pattern and the upper discreetly incorporates his signature logo. The color combination "Ignition" evokes the intensity that Giannis radiates when he steps onto the court, while the color combination "Night Shift" with the fluorescent outsole is dedicated to Giannis's late-night training sessions to perfect his skills and reach the next level. The color combination "Live Wire" is designed to give a standout look on the court, for a player whose game never goes unnoticed, while the color combination "Spotlight" recalls how Giannis's star shines brightest under the spotlight, as he is always ready to seize every opportunity. This special model is designed for those who work hard to shine and reach the top.
